Cats On Fire siirtyi Johanna Kustannukselta Nick Trianin mielettömälle Soliti-yhtiölle, jolle levyttävät mm. New Tigers, Black Twig ja Astrid Swan.

Bändin faneiksi lukeutuvat mm. Belle & Sebastian -yhtyeen Stuart Murdoch, The Drums -yhtye yms. Albumilla Cats On Fire matkaa rohkeasti kohti sliipatumpaa 80-luvun indiepop-soundia yhdistäen siihen nerokkaasti elementtejä mm. Agents-tyylisestä suomalaisesta melankoliasta.

The set list is dominated by Zevon’s better-known tunes of the period, though there are two otherwise unrecorded originals (the OK title cut and the blazing “The Sin”), and a rave-up encore on “Bo Diddley’s a Gunslinger” that revels in the joyous surrealism of the lyrics, and if one might have hoped for a more imaginative selection of material, these guys nail everything on deck. The music on this 3CD/2 volumes of two volumes of 2xLP features tracks that were the soundtrack to voguing, the dance style that erupted in New York City between 1988–1995.

Voguing dancers choreographed poses from fashion magazines such as Vogue. Voguing first emerged around 1988 in the extraordinary ‘house ball’ community of Harlem, New York. Here African-American and Latino gay and transgender men competed against one another at ‘drag balls’ for the ‘realness’ of their drag, their ability to walk on a fashion runway like a model – and for their dancing skills – out of which came ‘voguing’.

As voguing entered into the mainstream, the ‘house ball’ scene came downtown mixing with the fashion crowd of Manhattan. With this shift, Voguing was first seen outside the ball scene at legendary dance clubs such as Larry Levan’s Paradise Garage and Junior Vasquez’s Sound Factory. Here the music evolved from the pertinent classic disco tracks of the 1970s into a harder house sound as artists such as Masters at Work, Armand Van Helden and Junior Vazquez.

The album comes with extensive sleevenotes by Tim Lawrence, author of ‘Love Saves the Day: A History of American dance music culture, 1970-79’ and ‘Hold on to your Dreams: Arthur Russell and the Downtown Music Scene, 1973-92’.

Ruotsalaisen laulaja-lauluntekijän Billie Lindahlin luotsaama Promise And The Monster saapuu helmikuussa Suomeen. Odotettu Suomen-keikka toteutuu Helsingin Korjaamon uudistuneella vintillä lauantaina 18. helmikuuta. Samalla juhlitaan myös kotimaisen Nopat-yhtyeen levynjulkaisua.

Promise And The Monster

Lahjakkaan Billie Lindahlin vuonna 2007 19-vuotiaana perustama Promise And The Monster lukeutuu Ruotsin kiinnostavimpiin musiikkilupauksiin. Promise And The Monsterin tuorein albumi ”Red Tide” julkaistiin syksyllä ja se on kerännyt varauksettomat kehut maalailevalla tunnelmoinnillaan ja sävykkyydellään. Musiikkia on verrattu esimerkiksi Fever Rayhin, Stina Nordenstamiin, Bat For Lashesiin ja jopa Raveonettesiin.

Promise And The Monster on hurmannut yleisöjään levyjensä lisäksi erityisesti livenä. Suomessa artisti on nähty taannoin Tavastialla Jose Gonzalesin lämppärinä. Alkuun Promise And The Monster esiintyi soolona, mutta sittemmin Lindahl on koonnut ympärilleen kolmihenkisen yhtyeen.

Nopat

Kotimainen tulokas Nopat sekoittaa musiikissaan tuttuja aineksia tuoreella tavalla. Kappaleissa kuuluu kaikuja perinteisestä popista, folkista ja iskelmästä, mutta myös tuoreemmasta vaihtoehtoisesta kitaramusiikista. Trion pelkistetyt kappaleet soivat ilmavasti maalaillen lempeitä tuokiokuvia. Henrikki Lähdesmäen sanoitukset käsittelevät toiveikkaan haikeasti kaukokaipuuta, koti-ikävää, sydämenasioita sekä arjen pieniä havaintoja.

Vuonna 2010 yhtyeen omakustanteiset single ja EP ihastuttuvat melodisilla kappaleillaan ja vaivattomalla poljennollaan. Tuore esikoislevy ”Kadun tuolla puolella” jatkaa tutulla linjalla, mutta laajentaa ajoittain äänimaailmaa kohti uusia suuntia.

Illan DJ puolesta vastaa DJ Forrester, joka on tuttu sekä Bassoradion Paska Sohva-ohjelmasta, että Stupidon tiskin takaata. Dj Forrester julkaisi viime joulukuussa Skinny Love-mixtapen, jolla on myös Promise And The Monster mukana yhden kappaleen verran. Mixtapen A-ja B-puolen voit kuunnella TÄÄLTÄ

Rajoitettu Sähkö Recordingsin uudelleen masteroitu fanipohjainen julkaisu Jose Gonzalezin helmestä vuodelta 2007.

Sähkö Recordingsin TG:tä oli nyppinyt vuoden 2007 lp-julkaisun huono laatu ja pienen säädön jälkeen herrat saivat luvan masteroida (by Pete Salone) biisin uudestaan ja julkaista sen 12″ vinyylinä, aivan luksusta ja tässä se nyt sitten on! Tää on helmi!
